A: Online Vocab Quiz is a free program that will help you learn vocabulary words. The experience is customized for each user; once you create an account, you maintain your own personal list of vocabulary words together with statistics on how well you have learned them. You can choose to limit your word list to words that commonly show up on the SAT test or the GRE test if you are studying for a particular exam, but this is completely optional; users who are not studying for a standardized test can elect to use the full word list.
Q: Is there any cost for using Online Vocab Quiz?
A: No. All of the features of Online Vocab Quiz, including creating an account, storing your statistics, and testing yourself on vocabulary words, are completely free.
Q: How is Online Vocab Quiz different from other vocabulary trainers?
A: Several features of our program help to make it unique.
First, Online Vocab Quiz stores all of your progress as you continue to learn vocabulary words; moreover, unlike other programs, it stores not only an accuracy percentage, but information of "how well" the program thinks you have learned each word. This way, you are tested primarily on vocabulary words that are new to you or that you are having trouble with. Vocabulary words you have learned well do not disappear completely, however; they will return to your quiz list after a certain number of days to ensure that you have not forgotten them.
This number of days increases as you continue to correctly respond to quiz questions containing the vocabulary word, ensuring both that you retain your knowledge of all your vocabulary words and that you spend more time on newer vocabulary words.
In addition, Online Vocab Quiz features audio pronunciations for many of the vocabulary words, so our test provides you not only with visual stimulus as you learn the vocabulary words, but auditory stimulus as well. It has been shown that the more senses you invoke during the learning process, the better you retain the information.
The audio pronunciations will help you incorporate the word into your spoken vocabulary as well as your written vocabulary, because you will know how to pronounce the word properly.
Finally, the majority of words in the program contain multiple definitons, paraphrasing the definition in different ways. This helps to ensure you actually learn the meaning of the word, as opposed to simply memorizing a single definition word-for-word.
Q: How many words do you have in your program?
A: At the moment, there are more than 9000 vocabulary words in the program. Approximately 4000 of these are labeled as relevant for the SAT test, and approximately 4000 for the GRE test. More vocabulary words are being added all the time, however, so you shouldn't be worried that you will run out of vocabulary to learn.
Q: Will Online Vocab Quiz help me get a better score on the SAT/GRE/TOEFL/other standardized test?
